SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- An MS-13 gang member pleaded guilty in federal court in San Francisco Tuesday to conspiracy to commit murder and racketeering charges.

Wilbert Castillo, 29, a member of La Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, faces the possibility of life in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced March 29, the U.S. attorney's office said in a release.

As part of his plea, Castillo admitted he had been a member of the gang since 2004, and his involvement included helping attack members of rival gangs, including the Norteno gang.

Castillo was one of 29 suspects indicted following a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigation called "Operation Devil Horns" that targeted MS-13 gang members. Sixteen other defendants are to go to trial March 7.
