NEW YORK, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- The New York Democratic Committee is facing eviction from the offices it shared with the now-defunct re-election campaign of Gov. David Paterson, officials say.

Documents filed by the landlord say Paterson for Governor and the state Democrats owe $28,848 for the 10th floor space at 461 Park Ave., the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

State Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs said the party has paid its share of the rent.

"Suffice it to say that our obligations have been met," Jacobs wrote in an e-mail after the rent dispute was first reported Monday. "There is no disputing that."

A Paterson campaign official declined to talk about the rent question, saying only that it was a "complicated situation."

Paterson abandoned his campaign for governor in February after reports he and members of his security detail had contacted a woman accusing one of the governor's aides of domestic violence.

Paterson was eventually cleared of any criminal wrongdoing.

Andrew Cuomo will replace Paterson as governor on Jan. 1.
