No suspects in rapper's death

NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Police say they're looking for a person in a surveillance photo who might know something about the death of bounce rapper Magnolia Shorty in New Orleans.

Shorty, whose real name is Renetta Lowe, and 25-year-old Jerome Hampton were killed Monday by multiple gunshots in eastern New Orleans, the New Orleans Times Picayune reported.

At a Christmas Eve vigil at Mid-City Banquet Hall, family, friends and fellow musicians promised her murder will be a rallying cry against violence in New Orleans.

"It's our own community that's affected by the violence, so we're the ones that have to do something about the violence," said Tamara Jackson, president of the New Orleans Social Aid and Pleasure Club task force.

Police haven't named a suspect in the shootings but did release surveillance photographs of a man who might know what happened.

"We have to believe in each other," said Lowe's cousin, Leonard Kelly. "Because if we don't, we've got nobody."

A theme among speakers at the vigil was the message that the community must come together, the report said.

"When you separate people, this is what goes on," said Keishaun Patterson, who performs under the name "Monster With Da Fade."
