WASHINGTON, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama will include deficit-reduction plans and the U.S. budget in his State of the Union speech, his press secretary said Thursday.
Robert Gibbs sent responses via Twitter to questions from readers of The Hill. Gibbs said the State of the Union will be delivered after Chinese President Hu Jintao's state visit, scheduled for Jan. 19.
"Yes, POTUS will use both SOTU & budget 2 talk about priorities & focus on our deficit/debt - team looking thru deficit comm recs 2 @mwfreel," Gibbs tweeted, referring to a panel Obama appointed to recommend ways to deal with the deficit.
In 2010, Obama delivered his first State of the Union address to a Congress controlled by the Democrats. The coming one will be different, with Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, taking Nancy Pelosi's place as speaker in the House.
