LONG BEACH, Calif., Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Police in Long Beach, Calif., said they arrested a suspect Monday in the killing of a family member after a standoff at a motel emptied of guests.
LAPD SWAT officers and Long Beach police surrounded the Luxury Inn Motel on Long Beach Boulevard after reports of a gunman holed up in a room, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported.
Officers evacuated several guests, including children, from their rooms as a precaution shortly after 7:30 a.m, KTLA said.
The 58-year-old suspect surrendered to officers peacefully after 2 hours.
The suspect was being sought in a fatal shooting in Panorama City in the San Fernando Valley about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Los Angeles police officer Cleon Joseph said.
The victim, who died in a local hospital, was believed to be the suspect's 20-year-old stepson, and the two allegedly were arguing when the shooting took place, police said.
