DETROIT, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Rep. John Conyers Jr. said Wednesday his son's use of his official vehicle, which was burglarized, was "inappropriate."
Under House rules, private use of a government vehicle is strictly limited, even for members.
Conyers, D-Mich., the outgoing chairman of the Judiciary Committee, made the statement from Washington after it came out that his son, John Conyers III, filed a police report Thanksgiving morning that the 2010 Cadillac Escalade was broken into when parked in Detroit, The Detroit News reported.
The vehicle, registered to his father's Detroit office, had two laptops and concert tickets worth $27,500 stolen from it.
"I am sorry it happened and will make sure that it does not happen again," Conyers said. "I will review the full circumstances of the use of this vehicle and make restitution to the Treasury for any non-official use."
Conyers III did not respond to a call for comment.
