Girl passes out on Mass. mall water ride

KINGSTON, Mass., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Massachusetts will look into banning a mall attraction after a girl stopped breathing inside the ride over the weekend, an official said.

The Hydrosphere features giant inflatable spheres that children can climb inside to walk on water, WHDH-TV in Boston reported.

The Independence Mall in Kingston said a child lost consciousness in the ride, which is in the Pump 'N' Jump children's store.

Mall spokesmen said the girl was taken to Jordan Hospital. It was not known whether she was admitted or what her condition is.

Terrel Harris of the state Executive Office of Public Safety said it is investigating the ride's safety.

"We are reading and interpreting current law to determine if we can classify the so-called Waterball as an amusement device. That designation would allow us to either regulate their use or ban them altogether," said Harris.

Independence Mall said in a statement, "We have temporarily closed the ride until we find out whether the child lost consciousness as a result of the ride or for another reason."
