WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- The Pentagon says U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates is disappointed that a Pentagon report on the matter of gays serving in the military was leaked.
Gates ordered an investigation into the leak Friday, ABC News reported. The Washington Post reported Thursday the survey of service members included in the report found 70 percent saying changing the "don't ask, don't tell" policy to allow homosexuals to serve openly would make no difference to them.
Gates is "very concerned and extremely disappointed that unnamed sources within the Department of Defense have selectively revealed aspects of the draft findings of the Comprehensive Review Working Group, presumably to shape perceptions of the report prior to its release," a department statement released by Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said.
A 370-page draft of the report was circulated last week to the most senior military commanders. The Pentagon says the report will become public after Gates gets the final version Dec. 1.
