NEW YORK, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- The daughter of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was seriously injured following a fall from her horse during show-jumping event, officials said.

Georgina Bloomberg, 27, was undergoing tests Monday after suffering a concussion and a fractured spine Friday in the fall at the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament, the New York Daily News reported.

"Despite the injury, she is resting comfortably," her equestrian spokesman Kenneth Kraus said. "She's going to have a full medical evaluation. We'll know more then."

Considered one of the nation's top show jumpers, Bloomberg has suffered a number of riding injuries in her career, including at least three concussions.

As she took part in a high-speed event in which riders make as many jumps as they can in 50 seconds, Bloomberg's saddle came loose and she fell to the floor of the indoor arena.

She didn't seek medical attention until she woke up in pain on Saturday, Kraus said.

Mayor Bloomberg attended the New York City Marathon ceremonies Sunday as usual.

"The mayor, of course, is very concerned, like any father would be," spokesman Stu Loeser said.
