LANSING, Mich., Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Businessman Rick Snyder rode the Republican groundswell Tuesday to become Michigan's next governor, election results showed.
Snyder, making his first venture into politics, barely broke a sweat in defeating Democrat Virg Bernero 58 percent to 40 percent, the Detroit Free Press reported.

"It looks like we have a good mandate to say it's time to reinvent Michigan," Snyder told his backers in downtown Detroit.
Snyder will succeed two-term Gov. Jennifer Granholm, a Democrat.
