Women file hospital sexual-assault suit

ATLANTA, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Five women have filed suit saying they were sexually assaulted and videotaped by a nurse anesthetist when they had surgery at an Atlanta area hospital.

The suit charges Wellstar Health System with neglecting to proper monitor while the women were in the operating room at Cobb Hospital, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.

Last year Cobb police arrested nurse anesthetist Paul Serdula, 48, on charges of sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, child molestation and eavesdropping in connection with assaults on patients.

Four of the women who filed the lawsuit against Wellstar gave birth by Cesarean section at Cobb between 2008 and 2009.

Serdula is accused of over-sedating them, exposing himself and molesting the women after they their babies were born.

The fifth plaintiff is an underage girl who had her appendix removed in 2009.

Serdula is currently out on $250,000 bond. He is under house arrest with an ankle monitor while awaiting trial.
