RIVERSIDE, Calif., Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Jeff Hall, running a low-key campaign for the local water board in Riverside, Calif., is the well-known head of a neo-Nazi group, an official says.

Hall didn't attend a candidates forum hosted by the League of Woman voters and didn't submit a statement about himself for the official voter guide, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported.

The newspaper said next to nothing is known about Jeff Hall, the candidate, but Jeff Hall, the neo-Nazi, is well-known.

Hall told the newspaper he was traveling and would call back to respond when reached by the publication, but failed to do so, the report said.

"The issues that he would bring to the table seem to me to diverge in a very enormous way from the issues we have to deal with," Charles Field, a retired judge who is seeking re-election to the board's Division 1 seat, told the Press-Enterprise. Hall is running in Division 2. "I certainly wouldn't care to have his input on employee selection and promotion issues."

The report said Hall is not the only regional candidate whose background has been questioned. Daniel B. Schruender, a member of the Aryan Nations, is seeking a seat on the Rialto (Calif.) Unified School District board. Schruender said in an August interview he is not a white supremacist but is "pro-white."
