DALLAS, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- A blind man in Texas with many accomplishments added skydiving to his list this weekend.
Blake Lindsay, 45, of Addison jumped from an airplane 2 1/2 miles high with Skydive Dallas Saturday, adding to his resume of motivational speaker, disc jockey, author and water skier, The Dallas Morning News reported.
Lindsay said, "I want people, when they face their challenges, their fears, to dive in, because there's victory on the other side."
Lindsay spoke to high school students at a Rotary Club of Dallas event a few months ago. One girl asked him to name something he had not done yet but wanted to.
The first thing that came to his mind was skydiving. Lindsay said he'd wanted to try it since he was 5.
He made the jump with instructor Ernie Long, who has jumped with quadriplegics and paraplegics but never someone who could not see.
Lindsay, who lost his sight in infancy, got his first radio gig in Austin and then spent eight years at stations in San Antonio. He came to Dallas in 1991 and worked at various stations. Now he works at the Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind and is a frequent speaker at local schools.
