Two brothers dead, two brothers charged

MIAMI, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Two Miami teenagers, lifelong friends, have been charged with killing each other's brothers, police said.

James Adams, 17, is accused of fatally shooting Jamarquis Stafford, 16, July 17 after Jamarquis went to get a gun he had lent him, the Miami Herald reported Wednesday. Jamarco Stafford is accused of killing Lavoris Adams, 32, Sept. 15 in a confrontation over the earlier crime.

The families had known each other before Stafford and Adams were born a month apart at the end of 1992.

All four young men had criminal records.

James Adams had borrowed a gun from Jamarquis Stafford, and on July 17 Stafford wanted it back, police said.

"James just walked up and they exchanged words about 10 seconds and James just shot him,'' Sgt. Ervens Ford told the Herald.

James Adams, who had been hiding after the shooting, was arrested Sept. 11.

On Sept. 15, Jamarco Stafford and Lavoris Adams argued, police said, and Stafford shot him several times. Adams died a few hours later.

Stafford was arrested as a juvenile on a charge of second-degree murder. James Adams is charged as an adult with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.
