WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- U.S. President Obama signs a bill Tuesday to grant the Congressional Gold Medal to two military units for their service in World War II, the White House said.

The 100th Infantry Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team will be recognized collectively for their dedicated service by the award, the highest U.S. civilian award, along with the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Presidential Citizens Medal, the daily schedule said. The Congressional Gold Medal is awarded to a person who performs an act for the security, prosperity, and national interest of the United States.

In the afternoon, Obama will join Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, at the inaugural White House Summit on Community Colleges, which highlights the role community colleges play in developing the workforce and reaching the country's educational goals. Jill Biden is a longtime community college educator.

Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will host the Diplomatic Corps Reception for the foreign diplomatic corps in the East Room later in the afternoon.

In the evening, Obama addresses the 2010 Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit, discussing the impact of women in business on the economy and steps that can be taken to ensure the United States stays competitive.
