Fla. shooting spree leaves 2 dead

GAINESVILLE, Fla., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- An apparently random shooting spree in Gainesville, Fla., Monday left two people dead, including the gunman, and five others wounded, authorities said.

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office said the suspected gunman, identified by relatives as Clifford Miller Jr., 24, was found dead in a truck of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, The Gainesville Sun reported.

"We believe we're with the suspect and the vehicle, and there is no one out there running around," city police Capt. Ed Book said.

The gunfire began about 4 p.m. EDT.

The Sun said five people were shot within the city limits, two at one location and three at other locations, city police Cpl. Tscharna Senn said. Two other victims were found outside the city limits, one of them wounded fatally, Alachua County sheriff's Lt. Steve Maynard said.

The newspaper said the survivors wounded in the city all gave similar descriptions of the gunman.

Senn said one of those killed was found in a house where neighbors said Miller's father, Clifford L. Miller Sr., 52, lived.

Senn said police were trying to determine a motive for the shootings.

"We have no idea right now, absolutely none. It appears to be random," Senn said.
