CHICAGO, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Scientists, educators and members of the arts community are among the 23 MacArthur Fellows named Tuesday by the foundation based in Chicago.
Recipients each receive $500,000 in a no-strings-attached, five-year grant to pursue a chance to "reflect, create and explore" in their fields, the foundation said in a release.
"This group of fellows, along with the more than 800 who have come before, reflects the tremendous breadth of creativity among us," MacArthur President Robert Gallucci said. "They are explorers and risk takers, contributing to their fields and to society in innovative, impactful ways. They provide us all with inspiration and hope for the future."
The 2010 recipients are:

-- Elizabeth Turk, sculptor.
-- Amir Abo-Shaeer, high school physics teacher.

-- Yiyun Li, fiction writer.
-- Dawn Song, computer security scientist.
-- Marla Spivak, entomologist.
-- Jessie Little Doe Baird, indigenous language preservationist.
-- Kelly Benoit-Bird, marine biologist.
-- Nicholas Benson, stone carver.
-- David Cromer, theater director.
-- John Dabiri, biophysicist.
-- Shannon Lee Dawdy, anthropologist.
-- Michal Lipson, optical physicist.
-- Mergis Mavalvala, quantum astrophysicist.
-- Jason Moran, jazz pianist and composer.
-- Jorge Pardo, installation artist.
-- Sebastian Ruth, violist, violinist and music educator.
