Four accused of torturing teen

SACRAMENTO, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Four people accused of torturing a Sacramento teenager will face trial next month, a San Joaquin Superior Court judge ruled Monday.

Judge Terrence Van Oss set an Oct. 12 trial date, The Sacramento Bee reported.

Anthony Waiters, Kenny Lau, Michael Schumacher and Caren Ramirez have been indicted on charges they held a teenage boy captive more than a year in a Tracy home, beating him with a baseball bat, slashing him with a razor and inflicting chemical burns among other tortures.

"This is one of the weirdest cases I've ever seen, that any of us have ever seen," Van Oss said.
