LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- A birthday party in Los Angeles turned violent early Saturday and police said one person was dead and nine others were wounded.
City police said a fight broke out about 2:15 a.m. local time in the back yard of a home in Los Angeles' Boyle Heights neighborhood and escalated from there with several police drawing guns and knives, KTLA-TV in Los Angeles reported. A total of eight people were shot and two stabbed, with one of the shooting victims, a 22-year-old man, reported dead at the scene.

City police were looking for at least one suspect.
At least one of the other gunshot victims was in critical condition, police said.
Police said the fracas did not appear to be gang-related.
