Firefighters resume attack on Colo. fire

LOVELAND, Colo., Sept. 13 (UPI) -- More than 100 firefighters have resumed their battle against an uncontrolled wildfire west of Loveland, Colo., authorities said.

The fire, which started Sunday morning, has grown to between 600 and 700 acres and destroyed at least one home and several other buildings, The Denver Post reported.

Nine air tankers and four helicopters battling the blaze Sunday had to suspend operations as night set in, and firefighters pulled back in the darkness.

"The last thing you want to do is be up there hiking around when it's pitch black," Loveland Fire and Rescue Division Chief Merlin Green said.

Authorities have evacuated about 350 homes in the area as well as two tourist campgrounds.

Officials said they have no estimate on when the fire will be contained.

A federal incident management team was expected to take command of firefighting efforts, they said.
