CINCINNATI, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- An Ohio man who allegedly shot a friend with a bow and arrow drove 500 miles before turning himself in to police near Atlanta, authorities said.
Harry Spivey, 57, allegedly shot three arrows into his friend, 50-year-old Samuel Douglas Stacey, early Tuesday morning at Stacey's home in Elmwood Place, Ohio, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
Stacey's sister, Sandra Charles, said her brother was allowing Spivey to stay with him because he had fallen on hard times.
Spivey was "disrespecting the victim's 11-year-old daughter and that's when an argument ensued," Elmwood Place Police Chief William Peskin said.
"We don't know if he left to retrieve the bow and then came back and shot him," Peskin said. "A neighbor heard shouting about 4 a.m. and then someone heard him calling for help later."
Spivey fled in his car but his conscience apparently caught up with him in McDonough, Ga., Peskin said.
"He pulled up to a farmer, got out and told him he'd killed a friend in Cincinnati and wanted to turn himself in," Peskin said. "He stated the bow was in the trunk of his car."
Stacey underwent surgery to remove arrows stuck in his back and right hand. He suffered a punctured lung but was listed in stable condition and is expected to recover, the Enquirer reported.
Spivey has been charged with attempted murder.
