
HENDERSON, Nev., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A small, single-engine plane crashed and burned in Henderson, Nev., Monday, killing one person and injuring three others, authorities said.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported the Cherokee Piper crashed on at 8:15 a.m. on a city street 2 miles from Henderson Executive Airport and caught fire. A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said the pilot had trouble gaining altitude after takeoff and tried to return to the airport.
There were two men and two women on board, Metropolitan Police spokesman Joe Ojeda told the newspaper. No one on the ground was injured.
University Medical Center spokeswoman Danita Cohen said a 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were in serious condition, and a 43-year-old woman was in critical condition.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft was registered to a Louisiana resident and Glenn Gardner, public information officer for McCarran International Airport, said the owner was flying it.
