Sex offender caught in Florida

Sept. 4, 2010 at 11:44 AM

MIAMI, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- A registered sex offender on the run from a Texas halfway house has been captured near Miami International Airport, police said.

Billy Twanye Gibson, 33, was to have been featured on Fox TV's "America's Most Wanted" Saturday night, but authorities caught him Friday after receiving a tip, The Miami Herald reported.

Gibson, called a "sexually violent predator" by a Texas court, was arrested at the La Quinta Inn, across the street from Miami International Airport, Miami Springs police said.

He served seven years in prison for sexually assaulting a child and was sent to a halfway house where he cut off his ankle bracelet and fled about a week ago, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Gibson will be sent back to Texas, the newspaper said.
