MIAMI, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Fiona weakened further Friday and was expected to pass near or east of Bermuda overnight, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.
Fiona, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, was moving north-northeast at 14 mph 165 miles south-southwest of Bermuda, the hurricane center said Friday in its 5 p.m. EDT advisory. The storm's forward speed was expected to increase somewhat through Sunday.
A tropical storm warning was in effect for Bermuda, which could receive up to an inch of rain.
The storm was expected to gradually weaken and could revert to a tropical depression by Saturday, the center said.
In the Pacific Ocean, a tropical depression was forming about 195 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, the NHC said.
The depression had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph as it moved west-northwest at 9 mph, the center said.
No coastal watches or warnings were in effect because of the depression.
