MIAMI, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Fiona, with winds of 50 mph, churned north-northwestward in the Atlantic Ocean Thursday and a tropical storm watch was posted for Bermuda, forecasters said.
Fiona was about 425 miles south-southwest of Bermuda, trekking along a north-northwesterly path at 17 mph, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 8 p.m. EDT advisory.
Fiona was expected to turn toward the north Thursday night and then toward the north-northeast by late Friday. The storm is forecast to pass near Bermuda late Friday or early Saturday, the center said.
Tropical Storm Gaston was downgraded to remnant status over the east-central tropical Atlantic in the center's 5 p.m. EDT advisory.
Top sustained winds were 30 mph and the system was moving toward the west at 5 mph, forecasters said.
