RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- A Virginia state government computer system remained crashed for an eighth day Wednesday, state IT officials said.
The issues effected Virginia's elections, taxation and motor vehicles departments and were serious enough to foul up daily operations, the Virginia Information Technologies Agency reported.
"This outage has not crippled state government," department spokeswoman Marcella Williamson told the Washington Post. "The vast majority of state government computing functions are fully operational."
The Post said the source of the problem appeared to be a damaged data storage unit in Richmond. The unit has been repaired; however, technicians were going through the time-consuming process of restoring and verifying the information.
