MOSCOW, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Russia's foreign minister said Wednesday his country is not in total agreement with an updated version of the United States' national security strategy.

Sergei Lavrov told the Moscow State Institute for International Relations the U.S. strategy contains a lot of "traditional, outdated elements of foreign policy philosophy," the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported.

"We cannot totally agree on the U.S. national security strategy unveiled in May," Lavrov said.

However, he added Russia was in agreement with the United States on certain key elements in the document such as the idea of sustainable, gradual development.

The updated U.S. national security doctrine emphasizes a stronger domestic economy and broader cooperation with other countries.

It also outlines the development of U.S. defense capabilities, nuclear non-proliferation and homeland security as top priorities.

Lavrov said Russia considers global terrorism as the main threat to its national security.
