Bikers gear up for Flight 93 fundraiser

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- A policeman says he's again riding his motorcycle across the United States in memory of his brother and other passengers and crew members of United Flight 93.

Kenny Nacke, a detective in Maryland's Baltimore County, and 40 others, will ride 3,250 miles to raise $1 million for the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.

Nacke's brother, Louis, was among 33 passengers and seven crew members on the jetliner, which crashed on Sept. 11, 2001. The plane went down as some passengers and crew members tried to wrest control of it from the four hijackers.

"Last year's ride was all about completing the journey of Flight 93. The focus really wasn't about raising money," Nacke said.

The inaugural "Ride with the 40," started by Nacke and five others who lost people on the flight, raised more than $125,000.

Forty riders will depart Newark, N.J., Thursday and plan to arrive in San Francisco Sept. 11. They will spend the first night in Monroeville, Pa., after a visit to the crash site near Shanksville.

The first phase of building the memorial, which is to be dedicated Sept. 11, 2011, requires $30 million.
