Man suspected of killing 5 kills self

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- A man suspected of killing five people and wounding a sixth in Arizona killed himself Sunday at the home of relatives in California, authorities said.

Police in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., said Brian Diez was suspected of entering a residence there just before midnight Saturday, shooting five people to death, including the mother of his two children, and critically wounding a sixth, The (Riverside, Calif.) Press-Enterprise reported.

Diez then allegedly abducted his two children, ages 4 and 1, and drove to the home of family members in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., where he apparently fatally shot himself early Sunday, the newspaper said.

The entire deadly episode spanned about 260 miles and 3 hours.

Those killed in Arizona were Deborah Langstaff, 23 -- the mother of the two children, who were not harmed -- Primo Verdone, 24, Russell Nyland, 42, Ashley Nyland, 20, and Brock Kelson, 20.

Deborah Nyland, 44, was flown to a Las Vegas hospital and was still alive Sunday, the newspaper said.

Police said Diez and Langstaff had been in a long-term relationship but were estranged.
