Bill Clinton hits campaign trail hard

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Former President Bill Clinton has a busy schedule this campaign season, stumping for Democrats across the United States.

Clinton has already made 29 appearances on the campaign trail, The New York Times reported. His life is likely to be even more hectic as the November mid-term elections approach.

This week, the former president made several appearances Monday in South Florida. He campaigned for Rep. Kendrick Meek, a candidate for U.S. Senate running third behind Gov. Charlie Crist, a Republican turned independent, and Republican Marco Rubio.

Clinton has also campaigned for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in Nevada and Rep. Joe Sestak, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Pennsylvania.

Unlike many other Democrats, Clinton does not campaign against former President George W. Bush. That could be a mix of friendship -- the two ex-presidents have collaborated on fundraising for Haiti -- and political calculation.

Fay Gallam of West Palm Beach, who heard him speak there Monday, said she appreciated his silence.

"I think that's the politically correct thing to do. It's also respectful," she told the Times.
