School settles with teacher over stripper

BROWNSVILLE, Pa., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- A western Pennsylvania school district has agreed to pay $10,000 in damages to a teacher suspended when her photo appeared on Facebook with a male stripper.

Ginger D'Amico, a Spanish teacher in the Brownsville Area School District, will also get back pay for the 30-day suspension and a clean disciplinary record, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Wednesday. The settlement was announced Tuesday by the American Civil Liberties Union lawyer representing the teacher.

The snapshot that got D'Amico in trouble was taken in December at a bachelorette party for another teacher. The photograph showed D'Amico and others with the stripper, but she was the only person whose face was recognizable.

The picture was quickly removed by the woman who posted it. Other teachers who attended the party received disciplinary records, while D'Amico was suspended.

"This was something completely innocent that got blown out of proportion," D'Amico said.

She said the stripper was only at the party for about half an hour.

"He sat on everyone's lap, and we all laughed and giggled," she added. "No teacher took off their clothes, and no body parts were exposed."
