Mich. serial killer to be extradited

DETROIT, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- The suspect accused of stabbing 14 men in Flint, Mich., will be extradited from Georgia where he was arrested attempting to flee to Israel, a court ruled.

Flint resident Elias Abuelazam, 33, allegedly stabbed 14 men, killing five, and attacked four others in Virginia and Ohio, the Detroit Free Press reported Friday.

Abuelazam, arrested Wednesday, has retained two Michigan lawyers who say they never planned to fight extradition.

State law says authorities have 10 days to get Abuelazam back to Michigan after an arrest warrant was issued Flint, Michigan State Police 1st Lt. Patrick McGreevy said.

"We're going to get him back as soon as we can," he said.

McGreevy said the decision on how he is transported still has to be made. Michigan officers could pick him up or utilize federal air transport.

In a Georgia court Friday, Abuelazam asked the judge to define extradition.

When told fighting extradition meant sitting in Atlanta's Fulton County Jail for three months and not fighting it meant going to Michigan sooner, Abuelazam decided to return to Michigan.

"That's the most common sense to go right now than to wait three months, right?" he said.
