Wall Street backs GOP candidates

NEW YORK, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Republican U.S. Senate candidates are receiving double the contributions from the financial industry as their Democratic opponents, an analysis indicates.

The analysis, performed by the Center for Responsive Politics in conjunction with ABCNews.com, found a distinct fiscal alliance between Wall Street and Republicans in a dozen key Senate races, ABC News reported Tuesday.

"This is an extension of a larger corporate trend that has become quite dramatic in the past few months," said Doug Weber, a senior researcher for the center.

So far, the top 10 recipients of financial industry donations are Illinois Republican Mark Kirk, Ohio Republican Ron Portman, Pennsylvania Republican Pat Toomey, California Republican Tom Campbell, Democratic Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, California Republican Carly Fiorina, Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, Missouri Republican Roy Blunt, Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado and Indiana Republican Daniel Coats.

Last month it was reported that top bank executives were turning against Democrats following the passage of financial reform legislation viewed as anti-Wall Street.
