Fiery three-vehicle crash kills six

BISHOP, Calif., Aug. 10 (UPI) -- At least six died and another 12 hurt in a fiery three-vehicle crash involving a van of California Baptist University in Riverside athletes, officials said.

Police said the van was one of three Riverside university vehicles heading north on U.S. Highway 395 near Bishop Monday when a sports utility vehicle traveling south apparently lost control, smashing into one of the vans and burst into flames, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday. Another vehicle struck the burning SUV.

California Highway Patrol said five of the fatalities were in the SUV and one was inside the van.
