Giuliani's daughter nabbed for shoplifting

NEW YORK, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- The daughter of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani was arrested for shoplifting in an Upper East Side cosmetics shop, police said.

Caroline Giuliani, 20, a theater student at Harvard University, was apprehended Wednesday with five cosmetics items worth more than $150 stuffed into the pockets of her jacket, the New York Daily News reported.

She was taken out of the store in handcuffs and brought to a police station house where it was expected she would be issued a desk appearance ticket, the Daily News reported.

When store employees learned of her identity, they told police they didn't wish to press charges, the newspaper reported, citing a source it did not identify.

The Manhattan district attorney's office declined to say whether it will prosecute Caroline Giuliani. Police reviewed surveillance footage to see if the alleged crime was captured on tape, the Daily News said.

"She was a pretty girl with blond hair. She got carted off in cuffs by four cops, two were holding her really tight," said Dominic Zawada, 25, of Detroit, who was in the store when the incident happened.
