DETROIT, July 30 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama took a spin Friday in a Chevy Volt during his visit to Michigan to highlight the recovery of the auto industry.

"Pretty smooth," Obama remarked after driving the electrically powered vehicle very slowly for 10 feet.

Press secretary Robert Gibbs noted presidents don't often get to drive themselves anywhere. The last time the president was behind the wheel was about three or four months ago when he drove a Dodge Charger at a Secret Service training facility.
