FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 30 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said five people were shot during a gun battle outside of a nightclub at a shopping center early Friday morning.
Fort Lauderdale police Sgt. Frank Sousa said the department received a call about shots fired outside the nightclub, which he identified as formerly being called The Wiz but said it undergoes frequent name changes, at about 5:42 a.m. Friday, and officers arrived to find "people scattering everywhere," the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Friday.
Sousa said none of the five victims, whose injuries ranged from minor to life-threatening, was at the scene when officers arrived.
"They all either went home or drove themselves to the hospital," Sousa said.
He said the victims included a man who went home and collapsed in his shower. Sousa said the man is listed in critical condition.
Sousa said witnesses indicated the gun battle began as a confrontation between two groups of people. Police are investigating.
