NEW YORK, July 29 (UPI) -- U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Michael Williams Thursday met with former Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, the United Nations said.
Topping their talks was the Security Council resolution that ended fighting between Israel and the militant Hezbollah, the United Nations said.
Williams said Resolution 1701 had helped ensure stability in the region since the fighting raged in 2006 but urged both sides to step up efforts to meet their commitments.
"Stated commitment is good, implementation in practice is better," Williams said after his closed-door briefing to the Security Council earlier this month.
"But I also told the Council that all parties must do far more to meet their obligations," he said Thursday.
Williams and Siniora also discussed the deployment of another brigade of Lebanese armed forces in south Lebanon to ensure the safety of peacekeeping forces.
