CHICAGO, July 29 (UPI) -- A Chicago woman is charged with child endangerment after her grandson ingested traces of drugs from aluminum foil wrappers in the family home, authorities said.
Yolanda Beck, 37, faces a misdemeanor charge of endangering the life and health of a child after her 1-year-old grandson was found to have PCP and cocaine in his system, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Thursday. The toddler had been taken to a hospital when family members saw him becoming lethargic.
Beck, who has a history of drug arrests, admitted to smoking the drugs and leaving the wrappers out where the child had access to them, police said.
A spokesman for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services said the boy, released from the hospital on Tuesday, was being cared for by a relative.
Beck has been arrested four times for drug possession since 2003, and pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of prostitution in 2008, the Sun-Times said.
A preliminary hearing on the child endangerment charge is scheduled Aug. 10.
