WASHINGTON, July 29 (UPI) -- Ohio Congressman John Boehner has launched a "Boehner for Speaker" campaign to raise money for the Republican election effort.
Documents show the campaign hopes to enlist donors who will give as much as they legally can or bring in $100,000 from other contributors, Politico reported. Those who meet one of those benchmarks will be rewarded with meetings with Boehner and
"VIP access to all events."
Boehner, now minority leader, met last week with a group of lobbyists.
"He said that we're hitting on all cylinders with the exception of funding," a source told Politico.
Republicans, encouraged by recent polls on President Obama's approval ratings, hope to take back at least one house of Congress in November. But Democrats still have a big fundraising advantage, with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reporting $34 million cash on hand in June, twice the amount the Republican committee reported.
