HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., July 28 (UPI) -- A California woman wants the city of Huntington Beach to pay a $150 exterminator bill after a swarm of bees locked down her neighborhood for nearly a week.
Beverly Skoviak filed a claim against the city for reimbursement of the bill she said she had to fork over after about 3,000 Africanized bees set up shop on her street earlier this month.
Skoviak contends the bees likely came from a city-owned tree and held her and her neighbors on Polk Circle "hostage" for six days.
No one was hurt, but the Orange County Register said Wednesday that ideal was hardly a honey of an experience.
"The bees were ... becoming very aggressive toward people and pets -- making the whole block nervous, not allowing their children and pets out," Skoviak wrote in the claim. "We felt ... hostage in our own home during this week."
