BALTIMORE, July 27 (UPI) -- Baltimore police say a baby thrown out a window by its mother after she gave birth in her bathroom is in good condition at a local hospital.
Rebecca Himes, 21, allegedly placed the newborn in a plastic bag and threw it out the bathroom window into some bushes Thursday, The Baltimore Sun reported.
A family member in the house in Reisterstown, a Baltimore suburb, heard the noise and found the baby, and the mother and family member then called police, the newspaper said.
When officers arrived at the home, they found blood in the bathroom. Himes and her baby were taken to Greater Baltimore Medical Center, police Lt. Robert McCullough said.
Himes, who has been released from the hospital, has not arrested and has not been charged, McCullough said.
The baby was kept at the hospital for observation.
The Police Department and the Department of Social Services were investigating, McCullough said, but noted city prosecutors would be the ones to decide if charges will be brought.
