DENVER, July 26 (UPI) -- Former Rep. Tom Tancredo announced plans Monday to run for Colorado governor as a member of the American Constitution Party.
The Denver Post said the Littleton Republican still has to file paperwork with the Colorado Secretary of State and register as a member of the American Constitution Party before he begins raising funds for his campaign and discussing his platform.
Critics predict Tancredo's participation in the race will divide the GOP vote in the general election and hand Democrat John Hickenlooper a win.
Dick Wadhams, head of the state's Republican Party, told the newspaper: "Tom Tancredo has nobody's interest in mind other than his own ... But what do you expect from a guy who reneged on his term-limit pledge and has been running for office for five decades?"
