JACKSONVILLE, Fla., July 26 (UPI) -- A Florida college athlete was recovering from a shark bite to his foot that required 400 stitches, authorities said.

Clayton Shulz, 20, was bitten near Jacksonville Sunday, WPTV, West Palm Beach, reported.

"The shark grabbed me and shook his head a little bit," Shulz said, "and I think he kind of realized that he was biting the wrong thing, so he let go."

Shulz, a baseball player at the University of North Florida, faces several more surgeries and months of rehabilitation, WPTV reported.
