Ethics probe clears Feds in N.J. case

NEWARK, N.J., July 25 (UPI) -- A Justice Department investigation has cleared two New Jersey officials of ethics allegations over their comments on a major money-laundering indictment.

The investigation determined that acting U.S. Attorney Ralph Marra and Weysan Dunn, head of the FBI's Newark office, did not violate any professional standards in their remarks at a news conference announcing a 2009 indictment involving corruption and money-laundering charges.

The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger said Sunday the two officials were quietly cleared by the Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility.

The newspaper said the ethics investigation was launched after complaints were received alleging the remarks were aimed at bolstering the gubernatorial campaign of Chris Christie.

Christie, who won the election, is a former U.S. attorney in Newark who had been Marra's immediate supervisor.
