KABUL, Afghanistan, July 24 (UPI) -- Five U.S. troops were killed by bombs Saturday in southern Afghanistan, military officials said.

The Los Angeles Times reported the North Atlantic Treaty Organization force did not release the nationalities of the victims killed by the improvised explosive devices, but U.S. officials confirmed all five Americans were killed.

NATO also didn't say where the attacks occurred other than to say they took place in southern Afghanistan.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but analysts cited similarities to the explosives used by Taliban fighters, the BBC reported.

Dozens of coalition troops, mostly American, have been killed in Afghanistan in July, statistics indicate. In June more than 100 international troops were killed, making it the bloodiest month of the nine-year-old war.
