ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., July 22 (UPI) -- Florida prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty for a man's alleged killing of two police officers, but not for his alleged two non-police victims.
The lawyers' announcement came as Dontae Morris Thursday pleaded not guilty to the slayings of Tampa police officers David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab, and of Harold Wright and Derek Anderson, to the chagrin of the non-officers' families, the St. Petersburg Times reported.
Morris "took my children's father. He should get the death penalty for that too. What about us? Do the other two not matter?'' Matisse Gallman, the mother of Wright's two daughters, said.
Morris is accused of the June killing of Wright, 25, of Valrico, in Palm River-Clair Mel. Wright was discovered dead on the side of a road June 8. Police said he was robbed and shot in the head.
Morris also allegedly killed Anderson on May 18 in Tampa, the newspaper said.
"I'm not going to be pleased until (Morris) gets the death penalty in my son's death,'' said Anderson's mother, Wanda Gilchrist, adding she would speak with the prosecutors about their decision.
