DETROIT, July 19 (UPI) -- A teen at a youth detention camp is charged with taking part in a shooting at a Detroit bus stop last summer that injured seven people, authorities say.

Jeffrey Brooks, 18, was arraigned Sunday on seven counts of felonious assault, seven counts of assault with intent to murder and one count of felony firearm in the assault near Detroit's Cody Ninth Grade Academy, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday.

He was at a central Michigan detention camp for an unrelated infraction when Detroit police arrested him Thursday.

"We had been looking at him for a while as a shooter in this case. We're confident he's one of the shooters," The Detroit News quoted city police Chief Warren Evans as saying. "This was such a notorious crime, a real blemish for the city. That was a case that got national attention and got the blood boiling in Detroit. To some extent, we've gotten some closure. (But) this case is not totally closed and out of the way."

The June 30, 2009, shooting occurred a day after a gang-related fight at the school which, police allege, involved one gunman who recruited two others to go along in the shooting, the News said.

Detroit police allege Demetrius Hinton, 20, is a person of interest in the Cody Ninth Grade Academy shooting.
