'Barefoot Bandit' extradited to Wash.

MIAMI, July 16 (UPI) -- A federal magistrate in Miami Friday ordered the teen known as the "Barefoot Bandit" extradited to Washington state.

Federal Magistrate Robert Dube ordered Colton Harris-Moore, 19, who was captured Sunday in the Bahamas, extradited after the youth waived an extradition hearing, KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported. The U.S. Marshals Service said it could take as long as three weeks for the transfer.

Harris-Moore is suspected in a string of 70 crimes in several states since he escaped a halfway house 2 1/2 years ago. His first arrest came when he was just 12.

In the latest incident, he was accused of stealing a plane in Indianapolis and flying to the Bahamas, where he crashed and then allegedly commandeered a boat in a bid eventually to reach Cuba, authorities said.

In Seattle, Harris-Moore faces charges of interstate transport of stolen property for an alleged plane theft in Idaho in 2009. The plane crashed in Washington. He also faces warrants for fleeing prosecution and other crimes in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa.

He earned the nickname "Barefoot Bandit" after the FBI found bare footprints allegedly belonging to Harris-Moore at several crime scenes.
