PLEASANTON, Calif., July 3 (UPI) -- A fireworks display apparently angered bees at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, Calif., and nearly 100 people were stung, officials said.

The bees swarmed out of their hive and into a crowd of some 5,000 patrons in a grandstand when the fireworks began exploding around 9:15 p.m., a county fire department spokesman told the Bay City News.

By 9:30 p.m. nearly 100 people ranging in age from six months to 60 years were seeking first aid treatment for bee stings.

No one suffered an allergic reaction to the bee stings and only one person required hospitalization, the spokesman said.
